Almost Hit a Deer

Photo MWildHansen
Not the same deer I almost hit!  This was taken
at Jim's wedding reception, on the golf course.

On our way back from a ride into town last night I came within three feet of hitting a deer.  It was evening and visibility was waning.  Did I mention I was riding my bike?  The doe was grazing just off the bike trail and I spooked her into running into the woods.  That would have been a very strange "I hit a deer" story!

Batchawana Wolves

Erich's next door neighbor Willie saw a wolf in his backyard and snapped some photos.  Then he spotted the wolf out on frozen Batchawana Bay working on a deer carcass.  Later on, Erich skied out on the bay and found the deer carcass the wolf had been feeding on.  Here are the photos...

Oh, Deer!

Remember this adorable photo of the deer in my backyard from last year? Well, I'm rethinking my affection for the wide-eyed innocent looking creatures who visit me so often. Half my green beans were munched the other day and look what they did to my hostas! Now, I'm willing to share, but did they have to take the whole barrel full?

Woodland Visitors

I had three visitors to my backyard yesterday morning. A small doe, a larger doe, and a five point buck! He was a little guy, but displayed some fine looking antlers in velvet. They ate ground hemlock and a few flowers, stared at me for a little while, then meandered into the woods.
I used to see a lot of whitetail deer in my yard but not as many in recent years. This is the 3rd time these guys have visited in a couple of weeks, so I'm happy to see them back again. Didn't that little buck pose nicely?
