River Kayaking

Nice day for a paddle...

So far so good...
We saw these guys kayaking the Bear River last weekend.  After some heavy rains the river was running pretty swift.  They were novice paddlers but I give them a lot of credit - that water looked COLD!
whitewater!

listing to starboard!

almost submerged
good effort

uh-oh, where's my kayak?
retrieving one of them

Looks like the kayak is in a vortex!

The guy who sits next to me at work...his brother in law just drowned trying to save two teenagers who got too close to the downstream side of a dam and got stuck in a giant whirlpool there. One of the two teenagers also drowned. It was on the national news and the brother-in-law is getting some kind of postumus award. He was an expert kayaker, but the kids were novices.

That's a tragic story, Dave. This is not my kind of kayaking. Too cold, too dangerous.
Mary, I think you're right, a bit of a whirlpool at that point.
